Day 6 - 8 July 2005
Got off to a bit of a late start this morning, stopped at Innisvale for lunch then pushed through to Cairns for a bit of shopping. Due to not getting to Cairns until around5pm we decided to stop for the night at Newell Beach. A lovelly little room.
Steve took Jake down to the park in the morning while I packed our bags.
A brief walk along the beach before we took off again.

Day 5 - 7 July 2005
Another big day of driving... about 750km. Stopped for lunch in Kalarka at The Hamburger Hut ... the photograph does not really do these burgers justice ... they were MASSIVE!! We didn't even come close to finishing it haha.
You just can't go through some towns without seeing some of the sights ... and you can't go thru Bowen without stopping at the Big Mango! Grabbed some lovely mango ice cream while we were here.
Spent the night at Magnetic Gateway Van Park - and nice and clean place and a chance to do some washing. Unfortunately it rained overnight - That will be the last time we don't bother putting the tarp up!!

Day 4 - 6 July 2005
Well what can I say ... lots and lots of kilometres. Today we left Toowoomba quite early and headed to Rockhampton via Bundaberg. We planned on taking the inland road the whole way but that proved to be somewhat uninspiring so veered towards the coast.
Unfortunately the coast road was not right along the water so we covered extra kilometres and didn't really change our scenery terribly much lol. Travelled a little over 700km today and stayed at the Parkhurst Caravan Park in our trusty swags.
The place was under new ownership and would have to be the best value for money we've seen in a long long time. Lovely clean facilities and very friendly. State of Origin was on tonight and the owners put on a big screen and beer and all sorts of goodies =)

3rd to 5th July 2005
Driving.... driving.... driving.... Departed Canberra at o'dark hundred with our first planned stop in Cowra to collect our meat for the trip. Stopped at Dubbo for lunch then pushed on thru to Narrabri for night - covered 728km's today.
When we were planning this trip the majority of NSW was in the middle of one of the biggest droughts they've had in a very long time... but of course for our first night camping the ground was so wet from several days of heavy rain we were forced to take accommodation in one of the on-site vans ... let's just say we won't be staying there again :( Very nasty indeed lol
First stop on day 2 was at Goondiwindi and finished up at Toowoomba.
Spent the day in and around Toowoomba getting the last of our supplies.

A Big Adventure
Last year after Steve returned from Iraq we set off on what I feel was an adventure of a lifetime. The trip would entail driving over 9,000km, endless tracks of vicious corrugations, beautifully breathtaking views and memories to last a life time.
So that's what you'll find on this blog - our stories, or photographs and our thoughts on our biggest 4wd'ing adventure to date. Enjoy =)
